I wanted to take some time to write a review for Autowerkes. Johnny, Bruce and Phil were kind enough to reset the airbag light on my 996 as a courtesy. How often do you get anyone to do anything for free?
I know exactly where I will be taking my car the next time it needs service. As I told Bruce, I hope to see you guys again but just not THAT often :).
Don't bother with this place if you have a base model BMW. I dropped off my car and did not receive a shuttle service because they were too busy giving rides to clients with the overpriced Porsches. When I returned 2 days later to pick up my car and thought they were going to bring my car to me as I was waiting to pay for the repair bill. Instead I had to dash across Talbert to retrieve my car that is now dirty on the outside with grease spots on the inside. I wonder how much these guys charge for the car pickup and delivery service.
Johnny, Bruce, and Phil were all great--at least over the phone. I met with Johnny personally and he was really nice and patient, answered my questions, and was very thorough.
They all got back to me promptly when I called, and they had the car ready right when I needed it done. I like that they include picking you up and/or bringing the car to you as part of the service.
Their prices seemed a little on the high side. They charge $110 an hour which is about the going rate, but the parts seemed higher. Hard to tell though since Porsche parts are high any way you slice it. Overall I was treated very fairly.
If you are a car person, and chances are if you drive a Porsche you are a car person, then your mechanic is more important than your physician. Bruce and his crew are the most professional mechanics I have come across ever. Others talk about attention to detail and a commitment to excellence, these guy walk it, live it and deliver it. From complicated repairs to simple maintenance Autowerkes is professional and top notch all the way. And their prices are normal! I have had both types of service performed on my vintage Porsche and she is purring like a kitty and driving like a dream. Thanks Bruce!
Bruce, Phil, and Johnny have taken care of several BMWs for me over the last ten years, and the service has always been exactly as described. They don't have a sumptuous lounge, and you won't get a latte while they change your oil, but they are fast, thorough, and all business. I wouldn't buy a used German car without having them look it over first.
Came by the shop couple of months ago with questions on purchasing a 2007-2009 Porsche. Bruce gave me some ideas and what to look for. I looked at several 2007-2009 Carreras and with Bruces info I purchased one in Newport Beach. Took it to Bruce today who checked it over, we went for an exciting test drive, with the final analysis that it was an extremely well taken care of 2009. Here is where I will go in the future - Thanks, Bruce
Very nice customer service for the car owners. But for the car.... :-(
I had the four brakes changed at around $2300. After the work was done, I drove the car for two months and noticed noises when braking. I brought it back for checking. I was told to leave it there for a day to check. A whole day just to test drive on a brake pads????? Later that day, I came back and was told that they didn't find anything wrong with it and sent me home with the same problem unsolved. So I was stuck with this noise. Whenever I was at the traffic intersection, I felt embarrassed to see drivers around looking at me in my Porsche.... thinking I didn't have the $ to fix my brakes.
I had my oil changed there. After a 6 months or so, the oil levels went down significantly. I was worrying that the oil might have leaked some where. I took it to the shop to check. They had the engine on for a WHOLE hour and then said nothing was wrong. So where did the oil go?????? They sent me home again with the same problem unsolved. I took the car to another shop and was told my car was not like those regular cars. It burned oil.
The shop might have done great jobs to many other Porsche owners, but somehow, my car
did not received that same care. I live nearby, but reluctantly I have to bring my car to another shop.
The staff (I believe owners as well) offered us the most wonderful service when I desperately needed an expert to check the brakes of my Mercedes. They found an error caused by the pervious mechanic who replaced the brakes and fixed the problem in a timely and professional manner. I very highly recommend them to anyone needing an expert who they can trust!
